Best Visual Artists of All Time – Ranked

I found over 15 lists of the best visual artists (painters and sculptors primarily) and combined them into one meta-list.  The results are below, presented in order of rank and within each rank, by date of birth, listing every artist whose name was on at least two of the original lists.  Also included are birth and death dates, country of origin, primary medium or media, and a list of notable works.  I was surprised to find only one living artist (David Hockney) made the list, so I created a separate list of contemporary artists, which you can find here.  For a much more comprehensive chronological list of visual artists, including photographers and architects, go here.
